Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Pass 23.68 Million Units Worldwide

Nintendo's latest financial results show Switch 2 lifetime sales at 23.68 million units, with the original Switch nearing 157 million.

Nintendo’s newest round of financial results, published in early August, gave the clearest snapshot yet of how Switch 2 is performing more than a year into its life on the market. As of June 30, 2026, the console has shipped 23.68 million units worldwide, a figure that places it comfortably ahead of the pace many analysts expected when the hardware launched, and one Nintendo itself is pointing to as evidence that demand remains steady rather than cooling off.

Breaking Down the Latest Quarter

The most recent fiscal quarter, covering April through June 2026, contributed 3.82 million of those Switch 2 sales on its own, a number Nintendo characterized as consistent with the momentum the console has carried since launch. That quarterly pace matters because it falls outside the traditional holiday selling window, meaning the hardware is finding buyers year-round rather than relying solely on end-of-year promotions and bundles. Nintendo used the results briefing to reiterate that supply has largely caught up with demand in most territories, a notable shift from the shortages that defined the console’s first several months on shelves.

The Original Switch Keeps Climbing Too

Remarkably, the original Switch hardware is still moving units alongside its successor. Nintendo’s report put lifetime sales of the first Switch at 156.59 million consoles, a figure that continues to inch toward the 160 million mark even as the company’s marketing and software attention shifts firmly toward Switch 2. That kind of tail is rare in console hardware history, and it underscores just how deep the original Switch’s install base runs across budget-conscious buyers, secondary markets, and regions where the newer hardware has yet to fully roll out.

What Nintendo Is Projecting Going Forward

Looking ahead, Nintendo held its full-year Switch 2 sales forecast steady, projecting roughly 16.5 million additional units moving by the close of the current fiscal year in March 2027. If that target holds, lifetime Switch 2 sales would climb past 36 million units within the next several quarters, a pace that would put the console on track to match or exceed the trajectory of some of Nintendo’s best-selling hardware generations. Executives framed the unchanged forecast as a sign of confidence rather than caution, pointing to the console’s software lineup, including Mario Kart World’s continued dominance and a run of high-profile releases through the back half of the year, as reasons demand should hold firm.

Taken together, the numbers paint a picture of a console that has moved well past its early-adopter phase and into sustained mainstream momentum. With Switch 1 still selling in meaningful volume and Switch 2 accelerating toward its own multi-year sales targets, Nintendo’s hardware business looks unusually healthy heading into a fall packed with major first-party releases.
